The mission of the Cleveland Postal Employee Credit Union, Inc. is to ensure the maximum member benefits through cost effective financial services.

Who Can Join The Credit Union
CPECU services four distinct groups. Any individual employed by the following is eligible for credit union membership:

How Safe Is The Credit Union? It's Safe, Sound & Secure
With all the uncertainty in the marketplace, please be assured that your deposits are safe at CPECU and that CPECU is safe, sound, and secure.
1. Each account is insured to $250,000.00.
2. We have excess insurance to cover any deposits over that limit.
3. Our lending practices have strict guidelines to ensure repayment.
4. We have never been involved in sub-prime mortgage lending.
5. We are examined regularly by the State of Ohio, our insurer ASI, and our Audit Committee made up of members like you.
6. In addition, we also hire an auditing firm to provide us with quarterly reviews and a certified annual audit.
7. We are well-capitalized to ensure continued operation.
8. We have been operating successfully for over 76 years.
New Member Special
CPECU will put the first $5.00 into a new member's account if the member agrees to deposit a portion of their
paychecks through Direct Deposit or Payroll Deductions. Tell your co-workers what a great Credit Union we have.

Please Note: Anyone becoming a member through a family member can remain a member for his or her lifetime, without regard to location of residence or employment as long as one, $5.00 share remains in the account.

CPECU is always looking for members in good standing who have the time and are qualified to fill vacant positions on the Board of Directors and Audit Committee as they arise.
These important volunteer positions help determine the future direction of your credit union. Duties include attending monthly Board meetings, an annual planning seminar, and training sessions.

We are are now celebrating our 78th anniversary year of continuous service to our valued members.
CPECU welcomes our members to enjoy a lifetime of financial services! No matter where you are in your life's journey, CPECU can handle your financial needs.

CPECU is all about helping people. In fact, its the only reason we exist. Our goal is to provide our members with a lifetime of quality financial services at the lowest possible cost. Other financial institutions offer similar financial products, but our Credit Union is different. CPECU is a nonprofit financial cooperative. We are owned by our members, the same people who use our services. As a result, we are able to offer financial services that provide more value and savings that will help them improve their financial well-being.
CPECU serves the employees and family members of the Cleveland Post Office, Cuyahoga County employees, and employees of many other organizations.
History of the Credit Union

CPECU was the brain child of several postal employees who met together in 1932. They came together because they wanted to help Postal Employees to help themselves. They would pool their monies together, and make low interest loans to other postal employees. The interest charged would be used to pay dividends to the savers who put up the money for the loans.

On August 13, 1932, the State of Ohio issued its approval of the Articles of Incorporation for the Cleveland Postal Employees Credit Union, Inc.

CPECU had a Board of Directors set up along the lines of craft (clerks, carriers, and mail handlers). They hired a manager to run the credit union along with a few office clerks. The U.S.Postal Service gave the credit union free space and most of the employees were part-timers who also worked for the Postal Service.

In October, 1980 the credit union moved from the Post Office Facility at West 3rd and Prospect Avenue to its very own building at 535 Eagle Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. The credit union began hiring employees from outside sources. In October, 1988, the credit union moved to its present location at 1800 Carnegie Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, because of the new Domed Stadium that was to be built near our 535 Eagle Avenue property.

In May, 1993 the County Employees Credit Union was merged into the Cleveland Postal Employees Credit Union, Inc. Our County Branch office is still located in the Administration Building at, 1219 Ontario Avenue Cleveland, Ohio. The credit union also serves several selected employee groups.

The credit union is a full service facility. We now have six ATM machines:

  • NEW - County Board Of Elections Building - 2925 Euclid Avenue, 2nd Floor
  • Central Services Building 1642 Lakeside Avenue - near vending in the warehouse - No public access
  • Virgil Brown Building 1641 Payne Avenue - 5th Floor Cafeteria - No public access
  • County Administration Building - Ontario and Lakeside - Lakeside entrance, near Security
  • Jane Edna Hunter Building 3955 Euclid Avenue - Euclid Avenue entrance, near Security
